Brooklyn Kraft Haus is offering an introduction to screen printing workshop at the Gowanus Studio Space on June 29th. This workshop is a introduction to screen printing. It is not necessary to have any prior knowledge of screen printing or printmaking to take this workshop. This is an all day event so after completion, you will have a very thorough understanding of the basics of screen printing. During this workshop, you will learn how to prepare your screen for printing, mix inks, register an image a two color process, and make prints. We will start at 10:30 and will end at 4:30 PM. Please be prompt, as we will be covering a lot of information and will not be able to repeat steps once the workshop commences. Supplies are included in this workshop! As a bonus, you will be given 8 hours of free studio time at the Gowanus Studio Space after completion of this workshop to continue to work in the print studio. This is a very unique opportunity to learn screen printing in a brand new print making facility and practice what you learn after the workshop is completed. For information about membership and art studio space, visit http://www.gowanusstu....

PLEASE NOTE: You will be asked to prepare your image before the start of the workshop. Please go to Files and download Screen Print Workshop Instructions before designing your image. I think we all learned a lot from this workshop. I was a long day and everyone was so patient! We will do it again and make improvements based on your recommendations. I think it was a great first event at the Gowanus and we hope to have more meetup events there in the future. The best part of this workshop for me was swapping prints with everybody! I have 9 pieces of beautiful artwork that I can frame and decorate with!!!

Who attended?

  • 8 attendees
    •  I thought the workshop was excellent! Julia was a great teacher and really patient. I really feel I have all the tools to silkscreen by myself. Maybe the next one should either have less people or split into 2 session, one to prepare your screens and the other to print. It was worth it but it just ran a little too long.
    •  We produced some great artwork together. I also learned alot
    •  Christina thank you for introducing me to your group. You truly are inspiring. Thanks for all your help, and patience- your so calm and organized- you made every step seem effortless. I hope to be able to join in future meetups. Julia, You seem to have a natural affinity for teaching ( though you say you have never taught before). I appreciate your calm, relaxed attitude and approach, yet your insistant "don't break this rule- integrity and respect for the craft". Thanks for all your help, patience, and thorough explanation, you made it a lot of fun and now I wait with anticipation for the next workshop.
