Hello Crafty Campers! Well as most of you have probably read by now, I have officially reserved the dates for our Second Annual Crafty Camper Art Retreat, December 10th-13th! We had such a blast last year, we decided 3 days just were just not enough, so I have added Thursday! I have been busy considering all of the details of this super fun weekend and I hope that you are as excited as I am to get away and feed your creative soul in the beautiful surroundings of The Aravaipa Canyon. Since this retreat will be right before the Holiday season, we will have lots of projects geared toward gift giving, as well as lots of other artistic fun! I am committed to providing you a fabulous weekend jam packed with great food, great friends, and great art. You will have ample opportunities to sew, solder, bead, fold, mold, paint, collage,
and more . There will truly be 'something for everyone' and with the unique structure of workshops, EVERYONE will be able to participate in EVERYTHING! You won't have to 'pick and choose', which is something I am really thrilled about. PLEASE NOTE: The $100.00 fee listed in the event description is for your deposit only. Here are the details of the cost and what is included:
* $320.00 for 3 nights/4 days (does not include transportation costs, please see * note below)
* Lodging at The Aravaipa Canyon Ranch (shared occupancy-the lodge consists of several large guest rooms with between 3-5 beds in each. Beds will be assigned as you arrive at the Ranch)
* All meals and beverages from noon Thursday through noon Sunday (10 meals in total plus snacks)
* All supplies and instructions for art projects throughout the weekend (an average of 3 workshops per day)
* Game night and campfire karaoke with smore's fixin's
* Plenty of free time to explore the gorgeous Aravaipa canyon and creek
* Manicures and Margaritas night
* Super stuffed "Goodie Bags" for each camper
* A wonderful massage therapist will be joining us this year and I will post details soon as to how you can schedule an optional massage with her! Space is limited, so reserve your spot early! The Retreat is open to the first 12 members** and a $100.00 deposit will be required to reserve your spot. You may make a deposit via PayPal or by check. If you would prefer to make your deposit payment by check, please RSVP 'yes' and then immediately contact me for mailing arrangements and I will hold your spot for 1 week. Deposits are non refundable. The balance of $220.00 must be paid in total no later than November 15th. Once your deposit is received, you will receive an e-mail 'what to bring' list. If you would prefer to pay the entire amount in one payment and do so by September 15th, I will give you an 'early bird discount' of $20.00, making your total cost $300.00 . Denise *Aravaipa Canyon Ranch is gorgeous, but it is about a 2 1/2 hour drive and getting there does require driving approximately 10 miles of unpaved road and crossing the creek. Because of this, we would like minimize the number of vehicles that make the trip. If you plan on attending and have an SUV or other higher clearance vehicle and you would be willing to take 3-4 riders, please let me know ASAP. Once we have the final list of attendees and vehicles, we will be arranging carpools to leave the Phoenix area early Thursday morning (December 10th) and head back to town Sunday afternoon (December 13th). **Attendance at the retreat is limited to members of The Not Your Grandma's Super Hip Chic Craft Club. If you have a friend who would like to attend, please help them through the process of joining meetup.com and becoming a member of the Hip Chics.

Join us for a fun day of inspiration and creativity as we attend The Shopping Extravaganza at the ART Unraveled mixed media art retreat and then lunch and play together afterwards at Crafty Papers (we will shop from 10:00-12:45 and then head over to Crafty Papers for 1:00 lunch followed by our crafty project). The cost of this event is $30 and includes lunch and craft supplies. (please note--your admission to the shopping extravaganza is NOT INCLUDED in this price) After lunch, Linda Ross will be leading our art adventure into Queenly Craftiness with awesome Art Tiaras. The work space can accomodate up to 15 so please sign up early as space will probably fill quickly. Please only RSVP for this event if you will be joining us for both the shopping AND the lunch/craft following so I will know who to look for and how many to prepare for. Ok everyone, this should be a BLAST!! I have been pondering the idea of having a an event where I could combine both my love of cooking and my love of crafting into one fabulous event, and I think I have finally found the PERFECT fit!! This will be a fun and unique opportunity for The Phoenix Cooking and Recipes group to MEETUP with The "Not Your Grandma's" Super Hip Chic Craft Club. We will meet at my house at 9:00 a.m. and then take a short (less than a mile) walk to The Heard Museum where we will visit the fabulous La Casa Murillo-A Life-Size Shadow Box . This fantastic and colorful exhibit is the work of local artists Patrick Murillo and Kathy "Crafty Chica" Cano-Murillo. After we have a chance to see the exhibit, we will all stroll back to my house where we will prepare a feast of Mexican specialities and for those who are feeling inspired we will have a station set up for you to 'get your craft on' by making a small shrine or photo frame using the Crafty Chica line of glitters and embellishments from Duncan Crafts. The cost of this event is $25.00 per person and includes your admission to the museum, lunch and beverages and all your craft supplies. This is a combined event and will be capped at 30 people, (15 from each group) total, so if you are a member of both the Cooking and Recipes group and The "Not Your Grandmas's" Super Hip Chic Craft Club, please ONLY SIGN UP ON ONE SITE. You must make payment arrangements by Saturday, 1/10 in order to secure your spot. You can use the PayPal option or drop me an email if you would like to prepay by mailing me a check. If the event fills, there will be a waiting list and any vacated spots will be filled in order from the waiting list. If you want to take the light rail and meet us at the museum, you will want to get off at the Central and Encanto stop and plan on meeting us at the museum at 9:30 when they open. Tara is hosting another fabulous felting class.
It will be a 3 hour class, $40 for everything, wet felting, needle felting and she
will demo wet sheet felting at the end (so if you want to just come
for the last hour and do the sheet felting, there will be just a $15
for that section, supplies included as always.)
They have new tables at Conspire now so Tara can accommodate up
to 7 people comfortably.

The restaurant can accomodate up to 15 in a semi-private area that I have reserved. After lunch, we will do a project together based on this years ART Unraveled theme, "Discover your muse". Hey gals, it's been awhile since we got crafty together, so I'm happy to announce our next event. I've had several members request that we do scrapbooking and other paper arts. So, if it goes well and we get a good response, perhaps we could make card crafting a regular 'thing' and schedule sessions focusing on different skills each time. In this fun session, we will make a set of 8 notecards, featuring found objects and paper scraps as well as stamping and fancy fold techniques. Linda Ross will be our fearless leader on this fun adventure. Linda has had her fabulous card creations featured in publications such as Stampers Sampler and Paper Crafts Magazine, so it is a real treat to have her teaching us some of her tricks of the trade. The cost of this event is $15 and includes dinner and beverages and all of your supplies to complete 8 all occasion masterpieces. Please bring: your favorite paper adhesive if you have a preference (we will have adhesives available, but if you favor one particular brand/method, please bring it along)

The east side meetup on the 12th filled so fast, I thought we better have one for the central/north phoenix folks. If this date/location work better for you, please change your RSVP for the event on the 12th and put yourself down as a "yes" for this one. Ask, and you shall receive! We will learn several techniques including actual resin technique as well as ones using clear glaze medium and UTEE.
